Junior Garcia carries his cross along I-30 in Fort Worth.Junior Garcia carries his cross along I-30 in Fort Worth.

A 19-year-old from Saginaw began his journey to the nation's capitol on Thursday. He plans to walk there with the weight of a cross on his shoulders.

Junior Garcia from The Oasis Church plans to walk roughly 12 hours per day for the next five weeks to draw the attention of America back to the cross of Jesus Christ, according to Pastor Randy Lemme.

A support team will follow him on foot and on a cart and bus. They'll help shield him from traffic, especially on busy highways.

Once Garcia arrives in Washington, a prayer service will be held at the White House.

His journey will also raise money for Speed the Light, an Assembly of God Missions giving program that will buy a car for a missionary in Mexico, Lemme said.

An excerpt from The Second Mile
by Paula Fox

What is the Second Mile?

We often hear the phrase "going the Second Mile" in our modern conversation, but it actually has its roots in first-century Palestine.

During Bible times, the Romans had conquered much of the known world and ruled with an iron hand. By Roman law, a Roman soldier could compel a subject of one of the conquered lands to carry his backpack, or "load," for him one mile, but only one mile. The Israelites resented the oppressive rule of the Roman occupation and would obey the law by going one mile, but not one step more.

The Basic Law

The Hebrew people also followed many religious laws that were based on the Ten Commandments and other instructions the Lord had given them. To these laws, they added many of their own cultural rules and rituals. The most pious religious leaders lived according to the full letter of the law and were highly critical of those who did not. They did exactly what was mandated by law...going the First Mile. What they failed to understand was the underlying spirit of the law...the Second Mile.

When Jesus spoke to His followers in the Sermon on the Mount, He said to them, "If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles" (Matthew 5:41 NIV). He was using an illustration that was familiar to the people of His time. They were very aware of the Roman law requiring them to go one mile, and they resented it deeply. His suggestion that they should not only obey the law, but go even further and do it cheerfully, must have been met with shock and resistance. The Romans certainly did not deserve it!

The Higher Law

The Second Mile represents a much higher law - the law of kindness, generosity and love. Following the Lord means following His ways, which are much different than our own. He said, "My thoughts and my ways are not like yours. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than yours" (Isaiah 55:8-9 CEV).

Going the Second Mile means living above the norm, treating people with kindness and respect regardless of what they deserve. It is not enough to simply do what is required. In order to find joy and victory in our lives, we must give generously of ourselves

Update on Hayden Scott from Debi in VA (TS-TL)

The nail went through the paracardical sac around his heart and stopped inches before hitting his ventricle. He went through surge1ry, was on a vent, and was under some serious sedation.

Eachday he was showing signs of getting better, even after getting an infection in his blood stream which was found on the nail itself. Everyday I countinue to pray....

Hayden is OFF the vent, breathing on his own, and for the first time since this freak accident his mommy has got to hold him....there was nothing else that needed to be said when I saw this picture.....

Hold your babies.....this was one of those freak accident's but those freak accidents can happen to anyone.

I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh...Galatians 5:16

Our Liberatiooon is expressed as a reality only in the places of our lives where the free Spirit of God is released. We are free when and only when, HE is in control...Amen

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name,
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us! This day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as
We forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
Temptation but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever.

Thank you for featuring G&C USA in your Featured Groups. Donna P. was preety much in charge here since I find I haven't the time to post at all the out reaches we have. Please keep Donna in prayer. I know she wasn't feeling well and it seems as though she has cut off contact with many.
We have removed G&C USA from the Ning network for a number of reasons, one being for the way they treat our members and myself when we posted certain articles and secondly, because we will not support those that support Obama and his agendas.
If anyone is serious about growing this ministry here, please contact me at

Ten Commandments of Human Relations

The fundamental issue in human ethical behavior is summarized by Jesus in what we have come to call "The Golden Rule." Jesus put it this way:

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12 TNIV).

It asks us to test our treatment of others by putting ourselves in their place. Treat others the way you would want them to treat you in the same or similar circumstance.

Somebody took that principle and translated it into Ten Commandments of Human Relations. You may have seen this anonymous piece, for it circulates in a variety of settings. In case you have missed it, I am reproducing it here.

Speak to people. There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greeting.

Smile at people. It takes 72 muscles to frown, only 14 to smile.

Call people by name. It is music to anyone’s ears to hear the sound of his or her name.

Be friendly and helpful.

Be cordial. Speak and act as if everything you do is genuinely a pleasure. If it isn’t, learn to make it so.

Be genuinely interested in people. You can like almost anyone, if you try.

Be generous with praise, cautious with criticism.

Be considerate of the feelings of others. There are usually three sides to a controversy — yours, the other fellow’s, and the correct one.

Be alert to serve. What counts most in life is what you do for others.

Live with a good sense of humor, a generous dose of patience, and a dash of humility appropriate to being human.

Made in God’s image, all of us have something to be valued!

The great challenge in human experience is not work skills, but people skills. That is, research has shown that the majority of people who fail in their vocation do so because they cannot get along with people.

You might think through the meaning of these ten common-sense ideas for your own workplace and personal activity. But what about the larger setting for your daily life? These principles work everywhere you go, for they are about showing respect to the people you meet in all those places.

Made in God’s image, all of us have something to be valued, affirmed, and acknowledged by others. But let it begin with us to acknowledge it in them. As the cycle of giving and receiving enlarges, the human community comes alive.
