Spirit and Love Driven Prayer - Romans 15:30

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for all in need.

Key Thought

The Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we pray (Rom. 8:26-27). The Holy Spirit pours love into our hearts to give us hope and endurance (Rom. 5:5). So it shouldn't surprise us that the love we have from the Holy Spirit moves us to pray for others in their struggles. Praying for others, what is sometimes called intercessory prayer, is a great gift empowered by the love that comes from the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives. Paul wanted this Spirit and love driven prayer to focus on his desire to proclaim Jesus, something we've focused on for several days. However, this Spirit and love driven kind of prayer can be offered for almost anything that another brother or sister in Christ needs. Let's remember that the love we feel for others and the prayer we are given by the presence of the Spirit are there to gift us and equip us to pray for others!

Today's Prayer

Today, Father, I want to pray for a number of folks on my heart who face struggles of all kinds. Some are family members ... some are friends ... some are faithful servants of your Kingdom doing your work in hard places ... some are grieving ... some face tough times ... some are making hard decisions ... some have family struggles ... some have great opportunities they don't want to miss ... some are overcoming addictions ... and there are many others. Please hear my prayer for them today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Holiness becometh thine house - Thy nature is holy, all thy works are holy, and thy word is holy; therefore, thy house - thy Church should be holy. The building itself should be sanctified - should be so consecrated to thy worship alone, that it shall never be employed in any other service. The ministers of this Church should be holy, the members holy, the ordinances holy; its faith, its discipline, and its practice holy. And this at all times, and in all circumstances; for holiness becometh thine house-for ever, for length of days. During the whole lapse of time; till the sun and moon shall be no more. The old Psalter says the house of God is man's saule; and of this house holiness is "the ornament;" it produces that meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God of great price. No decoration of person nor simplicity of dress can supply the place of this heavenly clothing.

What answer God will give to my prayers. Peace - He will give an answer of peace. Saints - Not to all that are called God's people, but only to those who are truly such.

My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you... Ga 4:19

Holy and Righteous God, may the presence of Jesus increase in my attitude, behavior, and speech and may what is worldly and warped decrease. May this be true today, but even more, dear Father, may it be more clearly seen each day. In the name of my Savior and goal, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

For This Cause I Bow My Knees

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man. Ephesians 3:14-16

One of the best gifts we can give those we love is to pray for them. One of the most important prayers we can pray for other believers is the one Paul prays here. We can pray for those we love to be strengthened by God's Spirit! Not only can we pray this prayer for them, but we can also let them know that we are praying this prayer for them. Why not copy Paul's prayer and send it to a believing friend or family member and let them know that you have prayed this prayer for them today?

Father in heaven, I believe you are all powerful and that I cannot begin to understand your glory and might. I am humbled that you make that power available to me, and within me, through the Holy Spirit. Dear Father, there are those I love that I pray that you will bless with your power. Please strengthen them with your power in their inner being. Please help them be aware of your presence in their lives through the Holy Spirit. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Weariness is a part of life. Weariness is a part of ministry. Weariness is definitely something that overtakes us when we set our hearts on doing good for others. The wonderful blessing of God, however, is that he will renew us and sustain us and rekindle us. He does it through the encouraging word of a friend. He does it through his presence in us, the Holy Spirit. He does it through songs that lift our hearts. He does it through Scripture and prayer. So while our bodies and spirits may bet weary, let's not let our hands fall idle. If we will serve with faithfulness, discipline, and integrity, God's grace will empower us to do what he has called us to do.

Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I sometimes find myself weary and discouraged in my service to you and to others. Please convict me, dear Father, when I've neglected sleep, exercise, or good eating habits and empower me as I seek to correct those problems in my life. Gently humble me in those times when I neglect my spiritual nourishment. I want to actively and effectively serve you, dear Father, all the days of my life. In Jesus' name I ask this. Amen.

"Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, if a person continues asking, that person will receive. If a person continues looking, that person will find. And if a person continues knocking, the door will open for that person.Matthew 7:7-8

Loving Father, our Almighty God, I open my life to you. You are welcome here. Come and draw near. Change me at your will. I long to be your child -- not just in name, but also in closeness and in character. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Ephesians 3:14

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father,… That is, pray unto him for the perseverance of the saints; for nothing is more desirable to the ministers of Christ than that; which is the pure gift of God, and is what he has promised, and therefore should be prayed to for it; for what God has designed and promised to his people, he will be sought to; and the apostle's view might be also to stir up these saints to pray for themselves: the gesture he used in prayer was bowing the knees; a man is not tied to any particular gesture or posture in prayer, the main thing is the heart; mere postures and gestures are insignificant things with God; though where the mind is affected, the body will be moved; and this gesture may be expressive of reverence, humility, and submission in prayer: the object he prayed unto is the Father; that is, as follows,

of our Lord Jesus; though these words are wanting in the Alexandrian copy, and Ethiopic version, yet are rightly retained in others; for God is the Father of Christ, not by creation, nor adoption, but by generation, being the only begotten of the Father; and as such he is rightly prayed to, since not only Christ prayed to him as such; but he is the Father of his people in and through Christ; and there is no other way of coming to him but by Christ; and all spiritual blessings come though Christ, and from God, as the Father of Christ.
