Greece finance ministre Venizelos said that it was the patriotic duty of Greeks to pump their cash hoardings back into the economy. "They should for reasons of participation in the national effort to revive the economy, return them to banks," he said.
Patriotic duty... is this a new word from our politicians? We do not hear the word patriotic very often in Europe. Patrotism died in the trenches in Flandres almost 100 years ago.
I fear that very few Greek will comply with his request. I am not a Greek, neither a patriot. A few years ago I stopped saving money and started buying gold and silver. And yes indeed, it's kept in a vault abroad. It's my life boat in a sea of worthless fiat money.
Thanks to the new debt ceiling deal, my boat is floating higher and higher. Now it's waiting for a US ratings cut to AA. I think I'll buy me an extra life jacket. Safety first.
What do you do, dear members of No We Wont? Are you as unpatriotic as the Greeks? Do you pump your money abroad or are you patriotic heroes who prefer drowning in a flood of fiat currency?
